The Lake Shelbyville Muskie Club was initiated on October 3, 2000 with a meeting at Eagle Creek Resort. The meeting was to determine the level of interest in forming a Muskie Club in the area. Thirteen prospective members attended the first meeting where discussions centered on the club charter, club funtions and what people would want out of a fishing club. The club was formed on November 7, 2000 as a family oriented, independent organization.
The goal of the club is to share information on muskie fishing, promote the sport of muskie fishing and good sportsmanship, work with the Corps of Engineers and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources on various projects such as stocking, habitat restoration, and improving water quality,
to educate the public and other anglers on muskie fishing generally, and to promote catch and release of muskies.
In the past years the LSMC has donated it's manpower and other resources to the Illinois Muskie Tournament Trail, Lake Shelbyville Alliance, Illini Muskie Alliance and the DNR.
